THE MERLION

The Merlion is an imaginary creature with the head of a lion and the body of a fish. Its name combines "mer" meaning the ''sea'' and ''lion". The fish body comes from Singapore's ancient name back when it was a fishing village — Temasek — meaning "sea town" in Javanese. The lion head represents Singapore's original name — singapura — meaning "lion city" or in Malay.

roughage

Roughage or Dietary fiber is cellulose (the part of a plant) which cannot be digested by the human intestinal tract. It retains water and improves intestinal function by adding bulk to food. It is a definite necessity for proper digestion and bowel movement. Roughage helps correct large intestine disorders and keeps it functioning normally. It prevents constipation and hemorrhoids. It (soluble fiber) also reduces blood sugar fluctuations and helps lower cholesterol. Nutritionists recommend 30g of fiber per day (for adults). Wheat grains or whole wheat, legumes, Fresh Fruits, Root Vegetables, oats, Dahlia and Corn-cob are very good sources of roughage.

more interesting FACTS

What happens when a male lion and a female tiger breed??????????Wanna know????Then read!!>> A Liger - the largest of all felines. A liger looks like a giant lion with diffused stripes and some male ligers grow sparse manes. These massive creatures are 10 feet long on average and weigh about 700 lb (320kg). Liger love swimming - trait common to tigers but lacking in lions. Ligers have been bred in captivity, deliberately and accidentally, since shortly before World War II. The largest liger alive today is appropriately named Hercules and lives in Jungle Island in Miami. byebye.roaaaAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

interesting FACTS

There are certain types of caterpillars which are carnivorous in nature. However, only one percent of all caterpillars eat meat, and generally feed upon soft flesh like insects and spiders. There are several species found in different parts of the world with slightly different characteristics. They begin their life by eating plants of a specific type, but as they grow they switch to certain types of insects. The most interesting thing about them is the way they kill in order to arrange for food. Some use seductive smells or camouflage in order to trap their prey. A certain species in Hawaii disguise itself as the bark of a tree in order to hunt for spiders and insects. In Australia, the killer caterpillars specifically go for green tree ants and dovours the brood. On the other hand, certain Denmark species reside along with ants underground. It is a highly unusual behavior for caterpillars to hunt for meat, as we know them to grow as butterflies and moths. However, this kind of caterpillars are very hard to find, and are slowly on the path of extinction due to their complex life cycle.

iodine test

Recently,we just did an iodine test to test if certain food have starch and stuffs. I hope this information will help you.
STARCH:
Plants store glucose as the starch. The cereal grains (wheat, rice, corn, oats, barley) as well as tubers such as potatoes are rich in starch.*-*
Starch Test: Add Iodine to a solution or directly on a potato or other materials such as bread, crackers, sugar or flour. A blue-black color result will show if starch is present. If starch is not present, then the color will stay orange or yellow.
Steps to test iodine in the presence of starch:
STEPS TO TEST PRESENCE OF STARCH IN THE LEAF
1. Boil pieces of leaves in a beaker of water TO KILL THE CELLS AND BREAK THE WALL OF LEAF CELL
2. Heat the pieces of leaf in alcohol for few minutes TO REMOVE CHLOROPHYLL
Alcohol turns to green color- chlorophyll is removed
3. Soak the pieces of leaf in hot water for a little while TO SOFTEN THE LEAF
4. Using a dropper, add a few drops of iodine solution onto the pieces of leaf TO TEST FOR STARCH
LEAVES THAT CONTAINS STARCH TURN TO DARK BLUE COLOUR

A test of innate intelligence - 2D images The test is made up of tasks which test logical thinking when it comes to geometrical shapes - in the tasks you will have to deal with geometrical sums, deformation and rotation - Similar tasks are sometimes included in entrance exams, psychological testing and other selection processes. Tasks dealing with the relationship between geometrical shapes test a skill which can be improved with practice, but is not influenced by level of education or social background.

Numerical intelligence Numbers...
Numerical tests identify your ability to solve mathematical problems, work with numbers and think in a mathematical way in general. Tests practice and examine a subject’s skill at addition, subtraction, multiplication, raising to a higher power, working with mathematical sequences etc. Similar tasks are sometimes included in entrance exams, psychological testing and other selection processes. Numerical thinking can improve with practice but is not affected by level of education, social background or age.
